Fundraising
How giving works. Where your money goes, and when.
Some shops on Merchable support a charity or cause. Here's what happens to the giving in your purchase and to anything you add at checkout.
Four steps. From your order to their bank account.
-
1
You buy the item
and, if you like, give extra at checkout.
-
2
Merchable holds it
with your order, for the charity or cause.
-

Paid on the 1st
Everything raised last month goes to their bank account.

Your receipt
shows what you gave and who received it.
What goes where.
Registered charity
- Your checkout donation goes to the charity in full. Merchable covers the card fees.
- If the charity is endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR), your donation can be tax-deductible. The badge says "tax-deductible" when it is.
- Your order email is your receipt, with the charity's legal name and registration details.
Not a registered charity
- Clubs, appeals and community projects that aren't registered charities.
- They receive your contribution less Merchable's platform fee. Your receipt shows both.
- Your contribution isn't tax-deductible, and checkout says so before you pay.
Giving in the price
When a product says an amount of every sale goes to a charity or cause, the shop gives that from its own margin, so it isn't listed as yours.
Refunds
If your order is refunded, what you gave at checkout is refunded with it.
Questions, answered.
- Is what I give at checkout tax-deductible?
- Only if it's a donation to a registered charity endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR). Your order email is your receipt and shows the charity's details. Contributions to causes that aren't registered charities aren't tax-deductible.
- Does the amount in the item's price count as my giving?
- No. When a product says an amount of every sale goes to a charity or cause, that comes out of the shop's margin. The shop gives it, so it isn't listed as yours on your receipt.
- Is GST charged on what I give at checkout?
- No. Donations and contributions carry no GST and aren't discounted by discount codes. A gift card can pay for them.
- What happens if my order is refunded?
- What you gave at checkout is refunded with the order, and it no longer counts towards the charity's or cause's total.
- Does the charity get my details?
- Only if you leave the box ticked at checkout to share your name and email with a registered charity for their records. They're not used for marketing.
- When is the money paid?
- Merchable holds what's raised with each order and pays every charity and cause on the 1st of the following month.
